Applications of Trigonometry: Height and Distance
The aim of using trigonometry is to find the values of problems related to heights and distances with the help of certain pre-defined values and terms, provided which, the values are easily derived which otherwise would have been a complicated affair.
Line of Sight: Consider O is an observer and P is the object, then line OP is called ‘Line of Sight’.

Angle of Elevation: An angle XOP between the line of sight and horizontal line is known as ‘Angle of Elevation’.
Angle of Depression: If P is observer and O is object under consideration, then angle YPO is known as angle of depression.
